About Vellichor

Vellichor launched in 2026 as an independent editorial platform for fantasy romance readers and writers. We are new — and we are building in public. Every essay is written to a single standard: would a serious reader find this useful? No sponsored content, no affiliate padding, no filler lists. The genre deserves better criticism than it usually gets.

Our essays draw on primary texts and cite sources where claims are specific. When we say romantasy is the fastest-growing fiction category, we mean it: Publishers Weekly reported a 52% surge in romance fiction sales in 2023, with fantasy romance leading the growth. When we analyse tropes, we read the books.
